The BAGEP Awards
Distinguished Young Scientist Award (BAGEP) in the field of Literature. The BAGEP Awards (Bilim Akademisi), presented annually by the Science Academy Association (Bilim Akademisi), recognize highly promising early-career scholars to support their ongoing research merits. Dr. Gündoğan İbrişim formally received her award at the official ceremony held on April 18, 2026, hosted at Sabancı University, backed by the sponsorship of the Borusan Kocabıyık Foundation.
Dr. Deniz Gündoğan İbrişim, Assistant Professor in the Core Program at Kadir Has University, has been awarded the 2026 Young Scientist Award (BAGEP) in the field of Literature by the Science Academy Association. Dr. Gündoğan İbrişim's award-winning research seeks to rethink cultural memory studies through an ecocritical perspective. Drawing on contemporary literature and art, she conceptualizes memory not merely as a representational domain grounded in human testimony, oral narratives, and written archives, but as a dynamic process that must be understood through its ethical, relational, and ecological dimensions. Her research is driven by fundamental questions such as: Where do we look for memory? Which archives do we recognize as legitimate? Which forms of memory do we overlook or exclude? By engaging these questions, she challenges the ontological and epistemological boundaries that have traditionally shaped memory studies. Her work examines war-ravaged forests, polluted rivers, contaminated soils, and fractured communities not as separate consequences of violence, but as interconnected ecological and social actors that are transformed through their ongoing relationships with one another.
